Hard drive is not Recognized in Disk Management

Home > Frequently Asked Questions > Hard drive is not Recognized in Disk Management

My new Seagate 500 GB hard drive is not recognized in disk management as well as in device manager of my computer. Although it is detected by the BIOS during boot up but it is not showing up in windows at all. I have tried my best to make it working through changing cables, ports and updates etc but nothing really worked out. So kindly help me out in this?

Well you need to follow these instructions;

  1. Click Start
  2. Right-click on My Computer
  3. Select Manage option from the menu
  4. Expand Storage
  5. Now look at the two panes on your right. The upper one show the already recognized devices and the lower one scrolls down and shows the device that are not yet recognized by the computer. Most probably your unrecognized drive would be here in this pane without any letter assigned to it.
  6. So right-click on your hard drive and select a letter and path for that.
  7. Now a new window will pop up, click on Add
  8. Select an alphabet and then click on Ok
  9. Finally when you are done with that, Restart your computer, now your drive should show up as a normal drive.

In case it doesn't show up then it is quite possible that your hard drive is having some critical issues that needs to be eliminated through the acquisition of some proficient hard drive recovery experts.

If you are still not comfortable with that then you could seek for additional advices by calling at 1.800.347.5377.
