I purchased Seagate backup plus 1 TB hard drive from amazon.com. I tried to connect it with my PC as slave drive, but unfortunately my PC didn’t detect it. When I checked the drive in Disk Management, it was shown as unformatted and RAW.Does Seagate Backup Plus External HDD Come Unformatted from Factory

I ordered second drive and the same thing happened. I know how to format the drive, but the site advertisers says that the HDD comes with some pre-loaded software, that’s why I feel hesitation to format it. Please advise me and recommend a way to format the drive or to return it.

 

You don’t need to format the drive before using it. Your Seagate backup plus portable is a cross-platform device. Moreover, it is well-matched for Mac and PC both. Keep in mind to keep these two things in your possession.

  • Backup plus portable device.
  • USB 3.0 Detachable cable.

Typically these steps are taken to install the backup plus properly.

  • When you arranged a new Backup Plus, just remove all the items from the packing.
  • Connect it with USB 3.0 cable.
  • Now attach the drive with you PC or Mac with the help of USB 3.0 cable.
  • When you connect your drive with PC a prompt will open like “do you want to use backup plus portable drive to backup with time machine”.
  • Just find the Seagate Dashboard Installer.
  • Run the EXE file.
  • Accept and update to get the latest version rather than update the software later.

The dashboard is comprised of main three components.

  1. Protect: Make a backup for your computer.
  2. Save: Download contents from different social media sites like facebook, twitter etc.
  3. Share: Upload contents to your social media sites.
