Case studies: Western Digital External Hard Drive Data recovery. (My Passport & My Book)
Drive model # WD10JMVW-AAAJGS1
Symptom: 2 main problem is seen in these hard drives :
1. We received drives , with broken Read Write Heads : It happens when derive is bumped or dropped while running . Drives read write heads stick to platters . When power is applied again , the heads broke off and cause platter damage etc.
2. Drives Read write Heads become bad may be one or two heads are bad and not able to read or write From the drive
3. Electronic (PCB) malfunction. This is very rare and happens less than 10 % according to our survey ..
Western Digital My passport drives have a USB interface (2.0 or 3.0).
To work with the USB drives it is better to convert USB PCB to SATA PCB because USB connection have many restrictions to recover data as compare to SATA Connection. so in these case first we do is to convert USB PCB to SATA PCB ....
Once done that .. we have to transfer other necessary Vital information from ROM to new SATA Rom
2Step:
now we have to replace Head Disk Assembly so we get rid of the bad head causing the problem... to read data. Once accomplished that we start the Drive with New SATA PCB and fixing bunch of other issues for compatibility purpose .. we be able to get access the data ...
